Notes from the dreaming Caracal

Film, 24min., Full HD, color, sound, 2023

A film by Florine Leoni
in co-creation with Juan Felipe Amaya Gonzalez, Mona De Weerdt, Jannik Giger

«Notes from the Dreaming Caracal» is dedicated both in content and concept to the transformative potential of interpersonal encounters and explores process-based collaborative approaches. At the core of this process lies a strong interest in embarking on a collective search characterized by curiosity and a desire for experimentation, thereby allowing for the exploration of the unknown and the embrace of the unknowable.

The specific approach developed for the film, concerning the characteristics of movement, sound, and cinematography, as well as capturing seemingly incidental moments such as agreements and dialogue fragments between the cast and crew, allows for fragility and moments of irritation. Thus "Notes from the Dreaming Caracal" oscillates between documentary and fiction.

In the film we witness the first encounter of the two performers Juan Felipe Amaya Gonzalez and Llewelyn Reichman. Where they are and how long they have been navigating this spatial and acoustic setting remains undisclosed. The nature of their relationship is ambivalent and their encounter manifests as a continuous exploration in the often rapidly shifting between tenderness and brutality, gentleness and intensity, submission and dominance, the mundane and the poetic. Through their encounter with the associative and sensory soundtrack pre-composed for the film, both are transformed, liberating themselves from fixed identities, categories, and attributions.
